Pre-Operative Instructions for Dr. Viola
**Please call us if you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 within 1 month of your surgery date. If you are experiencing any
flu like symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) please notify our office right away**
Someone from Dr. Viola’s team will call you the afternoon before your procedure with your arrival time to the facility.
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before surgery.
If you take medication for your blood pressure, blood thinners (this includes Aspirin and any NSAIDs such as
Celebrex/Meloxicam, Motrin, Aleve, or ibuprofen), rheumatoid medications, hormone replacements, diabetic medications
and/or vitamins supplements please call our office as soon as possible to review. (Examples include but not limited to:
Lisinopril, losartan, Lasix, Diamox, hydrochlorothiazide, spironolactone, metformin, Coumadin, Eliquis, Plavix, Xarelto)
Cleanse your whole body from neck down with Hibiclens (Chlorahexadine) for three (3) days before your procedure and the
day of your procedure. You can find this at most pharmacies and grocery stores without a prescription.
Please notify our office if you have an open sores or wounds on the area to be operated on.

Hand Therapy is a crucial part of your successful recovery. If therapy is indicated, a prescription will be given to you and
placed in a folder to go home with you.
Please remember to bring your Therapy Rx with you on the date of your first therapy appointment.
They will not see you without the prescription.
What to bring with you to the facility the day of your surgery:
Insurance card
Identification (driver’s license, state ID card, etc)
Copies of legal documents such as your Advanced Directives, Living will etc.
The name and contact information for the person that Dr. Viola will speak to after your
procedure is complete
PLEASE –leave all valuables behind. You may bring glasses, hearing aids, dentures, etc.
Arrange for transportation home after the procedure with a family member or friend over the age of 18, you will not be
able to drive yourself home.
The day of your surgery, Dr. Viola and/or one of his physician assistants will see you in the pre-op area before you go to the
operating room.
